2012 Volvo C70 review picture

by Auto Design on August 9, 2011

The square shapes, the relentless marketing of safety, if this is what you thought all Volvos are about, forget about it. This 2012 Volvo C70 is fun. That’s right – fun, capital F with something U would never expect from a Volvo – wind and sun fun. That’s the most significant emotion that comes when driving the C70 convertible. Not power, though it has enough power, nor luxury – though it’s a comfortable convertible with few interior crimps. Safety is of course forefront on the minds of Volvo engineers, and the C70 is no exception, but you don’t really ride down the road in the C70 and think – “My, this sure is a safe convertible.”

Fact is, you don’t really think – it’s too much work, what with the wind in your hair and great tunes on the radio. You can hear the music because wind and road noise is well managed, and the wind is where it should be – playing with your hair, whipping around the top of the car like dancing pixies. The 2012 Volvo C70 is so easy to drive – there’s nothing to do but sit back, steer, soak up the sun and have fun. Sure, there are other cars in the mid-to-upper $40,000 range that offer a greater thrill ride. But the C70 isn’t about thrills – it’s about restrained luxury enjoyment, the kind that sacrifices little in style and comfort. You may also be able to find a similarly priced vehicle that offers more in the way of comfort and luxury, but you’d be hard-pressed to find a vehicle with as good a balance between power, luxury and convertible enjoyment. And that’s what the C70 is all about. If you’re in the market for this type of vehicle, you are looking to reward yourself, yet still drive a car that functions well Monday – Friday.
