A recent discovery about returning military members from Afghanistan and Iraq show that these men and women that are coming back from the war torn country are at a significantly higher rate of getting into a car crash when they are home. In fact, most people state that the person is at an seventy-five percent chance of getting into a crash while home. Those that have sons and daughters that have been in accidents after returning home never really knew that their loved one was at an increased chance of dying in a car accident after being through everything that they went through while over in country. But, the main question that people are asking is just what puts these people at an increased risk of suffering from these accidents when they get home?
The main culprit that people are blaming is the training that these men and women are getting for driving in Iraq. They are taught to drive defensively and to drive fast in order to avoid anything from happening to them because of driving slow. Add into the fact that these men and women are also trained to think that anything on the road or anyone coming up behind them could be someone that is strapped with bombs waiting to kill them, thus it makes the man or woman nervous when they get back into the states and start driving. Most people that have been interviewed after being in Iraq or Afghanistan are going to find that they do not like driving on the roadways, as they fear that anything coming up behind them fast is someone that is considered a threat. Many of the same people also admitted to not stopping at stop signs, speeding and swerving on the road to avoid hitting things that to them were identified as a threat.
The majority of accidents that have happened with these veterans involve speeding, alcohol abuse, not wearing their helmets while riding motorcycles, and not wearing seatbelts. The main thing that most people point out is that these men and women consider themselves invincible since they were able to go over to war and come back unharmed. And it could be this mentality that is getting them killed when they come home. Add into the fact that many professionals believe that these men and women are going undiagnosed with brain injuries that could be affecting the way that they think. So what can be done?
Most people want to know the chances that their loved ones are going to be in for when on the roadways when they are in the states. They want to be fully informed of how to make sure that they can avoid this happening to their family. One such way is for every member to go through therapy in order to make sure that they fully understand what their risks are and how they can avoid this.
