Toyota and their Safety Issues

by Auto Design on October 1, 2011

Everyone, as long as they have not been hiding under a rock the past few years, knows about the issues that Toyota has been facing. They are going to find that these cases are something that are making headlines everywhere. Due to the negligence of Toyota and those that supply them with parts, the majority of those that were affected by the loss of control in these vehicles, whether it be the victims themselves or the victim's families in many cases as this leads to quite a few deaths, they are all wanting justice. However, within all the lawsuits that are taking place, most people do not realize that this is a more complex issue than what they thought. Toyota is not only being filed against by those that were involved or connected to these car accidents, they are also being sued by a larger body that is maintaining that Toyota did not should up their end of the warranties and other aspects of the affected cars. Thus, Toyota is really facing many charges coming from all directions.

The first case that was tried on the federal level has been dismissed due to lack of jurisdiction. The judge in this case cited the fact that those plaintiffs suing did not go through the proper channels since the case should have been tried first in the state that it originated, which was Utah. For many people this is a sign that Toyota is going to get away with the problems and simply get a slap on the wrist. However, people are not taking into consideration the class suit that is being brought on by the warranty, which is being tried under the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act that people can file under, and still have their own case.

However, aside from the cases against Toyota, has the brand learned anything from this horrible tragedy? The answer is most definitely as the brand has made it a goal to make sure that all vehicles are going through a much stricter safety regulation checklist. The idea is that they can find problems if they become more strict about what they accept as normal or not. So far, Toyota has not had any more recalls that are related to this specific loss of control problem that they had starting in 2009. However, this does not mean that the brand has seen their reputation rise to the depths that it was before. They are still hurting as many people are simply afraid to try the brand. Which after so many deaths and injuries, it is easy to understand where their hesitation is stemming from.

Toyota has made it clear that safety is their number one priority right now, and with the stricter regulations that they are putting on themselves, most people will find that they are going to be having cars that have went through a complete safety checklist and passed, thus it should be somewhat comforting to those that are looking for a new car. Until then though, most people are going to be waiting to see just how Toyota is punished for their negligence in car safety.
