One of the most acclaimed sports utility vehicles (SUVs) is back! The 2012 Chevrolet Equinox is ready to follow up in the highly successful footsteps of its 2011 version. The vehicle that wowed the automobile world with its comfort, fuel economy and attractiveness has returned with a 2012 edition that is sure to raise the bar even higher.
The 2012 Chevrolet Equinox easily takes 5 passengers in its roomy interior, and the LS, 1LT, 2LT and LTZ trims offer a wide variety of amenities: outside heated mirrors, rear-view camera, audio and Bluetooth ports (and an 8 speaker system available with the 2LT trim to boot), remote starter, driver preferences memory and steering wheel audio controls are among the many features that offer the driver a smooth traveling experience. Even with this extra comfort, a sliding rear door provides the ability to take care of those long hauls that you want an SUV for.
The mechanics of the Equinox fuse power with safety. Under the hood its 2.4 liter, 4-cylinder, 16-valve engine can pump out 182 horsepower to get you there and back; the 3.0 liter LS trim increases this to a muscular 264 hp. Even with those impressive specs, the Equinox scored high ratings for crash safety. Its 6 air bags with rollover sensors, tire pressure monitors, forward collisions alert and automatic OnStar alert system helped it earned 4 and 5 out of five stars in front and side crash protection respectively.
While functionality is still the most necessary part of any automotive package, looks do count for something. With the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox it counts more. Following up on a 2011 model that the Kelley Blue Book described as “the best-looking vehicle in the segment”, the 2012 model comes in several trims and multiple beautifully etched earth tones and blues.
Its affordability in both purchase and continued usage must be mentioned. Chevrolet’s web site lists an MSRP of $22,295 (check with your local dealer to see what offers are available in your area), and at 22 mpg city and 32 highway for the front-wheel drive model (20/29 for 4-wheel drive) its fuel economy will add hundreds more to your annual savings.
The 2012 Chevrolet Equinox is a driving synergy of comfort, value, security and beauty. The 2011 Chevrolet was ranked #1 out of 23 affordable SUVs by US News, and the Detroit News summarized its overall value with the statement “Well priced, fuel efficient and nicely appointed, the Equinox sets a new benchmark for every automaker.” It may be difficult to imagine how such a reception can be improved upon, but with its combination of features, strengths, usability and class, the 2012 Chevrolet Equinox stand poised to do just that.
