2012 BMW M3 Review and History

by Auto Design on August 8, 2011

The BMW M3 is a version upgrade based on the BMW 3-Series. Over the years, it has taken ideas from the BMW E36, E46, E30, E90, E93, and even the E92 3-Series, all of which could support the sedan, convertible or coupe body types. The upgrades applied to the BMW M3 include an aerodynamic structure, improved suspension and braking systems, even more responsive and power-packed engines and additional color accents to the interior and exterior. Upon its first production in 1986, the BMW M3 was, for all intents and purposes, a racing car with an engine producing 195 hp on a 2.3 liter 4-cylinder. It featured the classic BMW box-style structure coupled with the 5-speed manual gearbox. The next model, the E36 M3, was released in 1992. At that time, customers had a choice between a BMW convertible with two doors and a BMW sedan with four doors. Come year 2000, BMW once again decided to shuffle the M3 around. Buyers were given the option of outfitting their BMWs with a Competition Package that improves handling of the vehicle. The BMW Company held the attention of the world through the continuous additions and revamping of the BMW M3. And as 2012 approaches, so does the 2012 BMW M3.

The 2012 BMW M3 comes with a 24-valce straight-6 double overhead camshaft engine and a 3.2L engine capacity that is able to produce 333hp at a rate of 7900 revolutions per minute and a torque capability of 262 foot-pounds at a rate of 4900 revolutions per minute. With fuel use at 20mp on city streets and 30mpg on the highway, the 2012 BMW M3 certainly has tremendous fuel economy that consumers are sure to appreciate.

Some features to look out for in the up and coming BMW M3 are variable alternate wipers on a power convertible crown, a rear glass defogger, and power windows. It also includes climate control managing systems with air filtration, memory settings for 3 drivers, and leather-wrapped steering wheel.  Halogen fog lights, rain-sensitive variable windshield wipers, and cruise control are part of the standard features of the 2012 BMW M3. The BMW M3 seats a total of four people.

The BMW M3 is also a perfectly safe way to drive especially with its side-impact airbags mounted on the seats, a post-impact scheme that unlocks doors, and dual stage deployment of airbags. It even has full-cabin curtain airbags for head protection. Aside from these, the BMW M3 has dynamic stability control, a system to monitor tire pressure, and traction control help to prevent any accidents on the road.

The 2012 BMW M3 offers an optional Cold Weather Package containing intensive headlight washers as well as seats which can be heated electrically. Another option is to avail of the Premium Package which includes even more additional perks such as Bluetooth cellular phone interfaces and a digital mirror scope. BMW M3 doesn’t end there. It also offers a Sports Package with W-rated tires and a rear seat complete with a ski sack.
