2012 Acura RSX Review and History

by Auto Design on August 8, 2011

The Acura RSX has had a relatively short history since its prototype debuted in 2001 as the RS-X. However, the Acura RSX appeared in dealers’ shops only in 2002. In 2004, Acura released the RSX Type-S which provided customers with an even sportier design as well as increased horsepower. Originally, the RSX was designed and developed as a vehicle to revolutionize the earlier Integra model. And although the RSX has similar dimensions to that of the Integra, the RSX has been newly styled and packed with even more power. It came out as a hatchback coupe with only two doors. The basic RSX model had a 160hp capability with 5-speed automatic and manual transmissions. This was before the RSX Type-S came out with a 200hp engine capability made available only with the 6-speed manual transmission system. It was also during the release of RSX Type-S that leather upholstery became a standard instead of a choice. Now nearing its tenth year as a vehicle in its own right, the 2012 Acura RSX has new improved features to once more “Wow” its customers.

The Acura RSX is known for its 2.1 liter inline-4 engine that whips out 210hp at 7800 revolutions per minute and a 143 lb-ft torque capability at 7000 revolutions per minute. Customers can choose among the different transmission specifications according to their taste. Transmission systems are available in 5-speed automatic and manual as well as in 6-speed automated transmission. For best fuel economy, most people would choose the 6-speed transmission which city/highway fuel use of 23/31 mpg respectively. Meanwhile, total fuel capacity amounts to 13.2 gallons.

Many of the features of the 2012 Acura RSX are what draw even more potential car buyers towards it. Specifications such as an automated climate management system, power locks on doors, height adjustment for the driver’s seat, an adaptable steering column, and a glass tilt-and-slide moonroof are among the priced characteristics of this vehicle. Leather seats, power windows, the Bose music scheme with a subwoofer, a remote entry specification and the 6-disc CD changer are all standard specifications of the 2012 Acura RSX.

With the 2012 Acura RSX, engineers have ensured the safety of the driver as well as that of the passengers by installing ABS, front airbags as well as side-impact airbags. The 2012 Acura RSX model comes with a warranty of four years. In mileage, four years would amount to about fifty thousand miles.

Assembled in Japan, the vehicle can carry up to four passengers and about sixteen cubic feet of cargo. The 2012 Acura comes in two trim orders: the RSX basic and the RSX Type-S. The latter has been priced at around $24,000 while the former is available at around $20,000.
